Arlen's Cannibals, Erectile Dysfunction and Nebraska Victory

Dear Mark: I thought former Sen. Arlen Specter was gone for good, but now he's back promoting his book about how the "ideological cannibals" are making it difficult to govern in Washington. The title itself takes particular aim at the tea party and their supposed lack of willingness to compromise. Do you believe there is any merit to his argument? — Tea Party Ted

Dear Ted: There might be a microscopic sliver of merit, but not to the apoplectic extent that liberal politicians and pundits would have you believe. Blaming an "uncompromising" tea party as the reason for our ills is simply a tactic to divert attention from the true culprits — lifelong Washington politicians and their cronies. These Washington insiders worship at the altar of compromise as if compromise has become a new virtue. News flash to these nimrods: There are areas of debate where one cannot compromise, such as water is wet, fire is hot and the government is spending more money than it takes in.

The "compromises" and "reaching across the aisle" that Specter, Richard Lugar, Barney Frank, Nancy Pelosi and others so proudly trumpet have left our country over $15 trillion in debt. Not to mention the trillions in the unfunded liabilities we owe our current and future retirees. These compromises have exploded the size of government as well as its interference in our personal lives. Let's not forget that the biggest Washington compromise is that these idiots have compromised the future of our children and grandchildren — all so they could remain members of the Washington good old boys club.

Bottom-line: Arlen Specter comes across as a bitter egotistical career politician who still can't comprehend how he was booted out of office by the unwashed masses of Pennsylvania.

Maybe some cannibals ate his brain — or better yet, maybe he should just bite his tongue.

Dear Mark: I was horrified to read that part of Obama's economic stimulus went to study erectile dysfunction in obese men. We the people constantly scream about wasteful government spending, and the morons in Washington act as if every spending cut proposal will hurt women and children. What is wrong with cutting junk like this out of the federal budget? — Healthy Hal in Southern Cal

Dear Hal: The jokes running through my head right now are better left to late night comedians, but yes, a portion of Obama's stimulus package did in fact go to erectile dysfunction researchers at the University of California at San Francisco ... go figure.

This is a perfect example of what happens when government becomes too large and politicians lose the concept of real money. But after all, this was sold as a "stimulus" package, so Washington can cover its butt and say the money was not totally misappropriated. Actually, I think this earmark was for all those fat cats in Congress who have been impotent against the real problems facing our country like the economy, the national debt and entitlements. Sorry, Washington, I don't think a little blue pill will cure your sickness.

Dear Mark: I was thrilled to see Nebraska state Sen. Deb Fischer win the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate in Nebraska. Don't you think more female Republicans in politics is refreshing? — Glad Girl in Grand Island

Dear Glad: It will be refreshing to see more Republicans in the Senate, male or female. Whoa wait a minute — don't Nebraskans understand there's a Republican war on women? I demand a recount.

Dear Mark...And I used up every bit of elasticity out of dear in your case...Specter is right... Power is a zero net gain, and the only way to have more is to eat the other guy... In our society, eating the rights of another is only a prelude to eating him; and that is why people have to be on the defense of their rights non-stop, even though it is their very want of rights to begin with that has put them in such a place that even monitoring the situation takes too much of life and time out of our lives...
My wife gets mad at me for watching the news because the news makes me mad... Maybe it is my default setting, but I do not think so... I think when you witness injustice you have to get angry, and when you feel injustice you have to get angry, or you are totally demoralized, and good for nothing... I think the tea party is a collection of clowns, but they are still absolutely correct to be angry... We are seeing the end of our nation... Every time an individual has to defend a right they claim for their happiness or life when no obvious injury to society results from it, the whole society is injured and turned against itself...
The parties have divided the nation between them... They have polarized and radicalized us for their own gain... Should anyone be surprised if now they are the victims of the beast they have created... What have they done for everybody compared to what they have done TO everybody... They each excuse their failure on the other party so that their core thinks only less compromise will secure change... We all want and need change, but people in charge reflecting the desire of the successful and privilaged for NO change do not allow change...
Moral issues are kept like an open wound because they can be used to prod people to vote... Nothing is ever fixed for good and all...We should all be angry...We should tell people to mind their own business and make sure their business does not hurt people, and then we can have a democracy...Until we shut up the parties and learn to talk to each other, beginning with what is the a nature of rights; we haven't got a chance...Thanks...Sweeney
