Valentine's Day ReduxValentine's Day — a time to eat chocolate, smell flowers and think about old movies such as "Forrest Gump" and old episodes of "The Office." KEN: One of my best Valentine's Days happened in college. Talia floored me, and I was all about her. She was my "Jenny" and I was her "Gump." She agreed to go out with me, and I had one chance to make a good impression. I took her to a park that had a lookout point. We sat alone on the wall, ate Arby's, watched the sun set and talked about everything on that Valentine's Day evening. Though the relationship didn't work out — her decision —about 15 years later when I ran into her, she said one of her fondest memories was of that night. It really touched her heart. She mentioned how simple and unique our plans were, and how no other man has ever done anything like that for her since. So to all the men who believe Valentine's Day is a phony holiday, I'm here to say you'll never understand its importance, but she will. So put your heart into it, and you'll be rewarded. KYLE: Anybody remember the episode of "The Office" where Pam was still engaged to the warehouse guy, Roy? All day long on Valentine's Day, she watched other women getting flowers and cards. When she said something to Roy, he looked at her and told her that he didn't send her anything because later he was going to give her "the best sex (she) ever had." I absolutely wanted to slap that horrible grin off his face, stomp on him, revive him with cold water and then stomp on him again.
JAYCEE: When I was working, I loved getting flowers at the office. The women would all come to see them and the men would stand around, wondering what was going on. When I explained how it made me feel — to have my husband express his love for me so openly like that — one man said I'd given him an idea. Since his wife was a stay-at-home mother, he'd have flowers delivered while they were at a restaurant. KEITH: I'm a 41-year-old gentleman, divorced, with two kids. I enjoy being single. I'm not currently seeing anyone and this doesn't bother me. Quite honestly, I'm relieved not to have the hassle of Valentine's Day this year. I concentrate on my children during this holiday. I put my heart into making gifts and writing cards telling them how valuable they are to me. Valentine's Day should be about offering love, not receiving it. I can't ever remember a time my children didn't give me a hug and tell me how much they love me. It's also an opportunity for me to show my son how to be a gentleman and to teach my son and daughter what gifts from the heart are all about. It really sparks the creative side in me, as well as them. I also send a text, email or card to my fellow single friends. These tokens can really cheer up the perpetual grump, and it doesn't cost much. How was your Valentine's Day?
